Veteran friendly practice

At Sett Valley Medical Centre, we’re proud to support our Armed Forces community.
That’s why we are an accredited Veteran Friendly GP practice. Our team is specially trained to support our veteran patients and help them to access the specialist services they need.

Sett Valley Medical Centre is accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners as one which specialises in the care of military veterans and their families. All the team have been trained in the care of military veterans and their families. If recent events have affected you and you wish to seek help, please come forward.

A Veteran is anyone who has served for at least one day in the Armed Forces, whether regular or reserve. It means the same as ‘ex personnel’ of ‘ex-forces’, although not all veterans know, choose or want to associate with the term ‘veteran’.

This is particularly the case amongst younger veterans who often refer to themselves as ‘ex-forces’, due to the common belief that a veteran is someone who fought in the first/Second World War.

Below are useful website addresses of services that are available to Veterans:

Op COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is the new name for the Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS), Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS) and Veterans’ Mental Health High Intensity Service (HIS). The new name has been developed following feedback from veterans and their families to make it easier for those leaving the military and veterans to find help. We also recommend listening to declassified, a series of podcasts documenting stories from the military community to help, support and guide those suffering from mental and physical illness and injury.
