2 Week Wait Referrals
If your GP sends you for tests to rule out or investigate a possible cancer diagnosis, you will be referred on the national ‘2 week wait’ pathway to the nearest hospital accepting urgent referrals. Our Secretaries will be in touch by letter or text message to let you know that the referral has been made, and to where. You should then hear from the hospital within two weeks of your referral.
If you haven’t heard from the hospital within this time, please contact us.
We understand that a 2 week wait referral can be a cause of real worry to patients. It may be reassuring to know that more than 9 out of 10 patients referred on the 2 week wait pathway are not found to have cancer.
The leaflet Your Urgent Referral Explained has some useful information about the process and what to expect from a 2 week wait referral.
