Following the announcement yesterday regarding booster vaccines which, as usual, we heard at the same time as the general public. There has already been a flurry of enquiries from patients as a result. Please see below update and communication to patients.
- Boosters will be offered to all patients over the age of 18. But the NBS service is not open to cohorts 11 and 12 yet and we were told to concentrate on boosters for over 40. As soon as this will open, we will be inviting patients in.
- The interval between 2nd dose and booster dose will be reduced from 6 months to 3 months.
- Children aged 12-15 will now be offered 2 doses of vaccine at 12 weeks.
This move has resulted in more than 2000 patients becoming immediately eligible for their booster vaccination. We are urgently working to plan the delivery of these vaccines as soon as possible. Please bear with us, however, as there are hurdles to overcome in order to deliver this number of vaccines. National supplies of Pfizer vaccine are restricted at the moment, and we are limited by the number of doses we are allocated. We are awaiting news on deliveries and whether our allocation will increase. Our booking system also needs to be updated to allow booking prior to 6 months. We are hoping that this will be implemented in the coming days.
We will be in touch to invite you as soon as we can. In the meantime, please ensure that we have your up-to-date mobile number so that we can invite you by text when we’re able. You can update your contact details via our website.
It may be possible to book your vaccine through the national booking system by calling 119 or by visiting NHS: Book or manage a coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccination although please bear in mind that, with the influx of so many newly eligible patients, these will be much busier than normal.
Many thanks for your patience.
