CRY Cardiac Screening
Charity Cardiac Risk in the
Young (CRY) is offering a
screening programme for
people aged 14-35 years,
at Hayfield Primary School,
on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 October 2019.
CRY’s mission is to identify people at risk from sudden
cardiac death. Risks can include thickening of the heart
muscle, or abnormal structure of the heart, and
irregularities of the impulses that control the rhythm of
the heart. If you are 18-35 and take part in sport,
having an underlying cardiac abnormality carries a high
risk.
At a screening, you will have an ECG
(electrocardiogram) which examines the electrical
activity of the heart, and if required, an echocardiogram
(ultrasound of the heart), as well as a physical
examination. These tests are simple, non-invasive, and
plainness – and they only take a few minutes with a
qualified cardiac specialist.
The results will be examined by a doctor in conjunction
with a personal and family history questionnaire. Any
results suggesting an abnormality will be passed to CRY
Consultant Cardiologist, Professor Sanjay Sharma – a
leading expet on inherited cardiac conditions.
